What they do
Freshfields is commonly known as one of the 'magic circle' firms, and its Hong Kong office forms a crucial link in this elite international firm's network. The office divides its work into five practice areas: antitrust, competition and trade; corporate; dispute resolution; finance; and IP/IT. The Hong Kong office is the largest in China, with 70 lawyers. In a recent highlight deal, it advised PetroChina on its USD1 billion acquisition of a 50% stake in Ineos’ European refining business. China Unicom, Citibank and L’Occitane are just a selection of the firm’s varied clientele.
